Our Analytical Services Laboratory can help you ensure quality of seed by verifying the proper application of variety of seed treatments. Testing seed before planting will confirm that enough treatment is applied to ensure protection. It can also be used to assist in calibrating your seed treating equipment to prevent over treatment, a situation which not only increases cost, but can potentially damage your seed.
We recommend that your initial calibration includes at least three samples for each product/rate, followed by random checks of 1-4 lots per month (depending on the size of your operation).
Our Sample Track® software acts as a record keeping tool for you. It allows you to log typical lot and variety information along with the batch number of the seed treatment, location of the application, or other site specific information.
How the test is done
Two replicate sub samples from the submitted sample will be extracted in appropriate solvent by shaking or sonication. The subsequent extract is analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The amount of the chemical compound is determined using analytical standards and ChemStation software to calculate area of the peaks. We have worked closely with treatment manufacturers and have internally developed methods which are systematically examined for accuracy and reproducibility to ensure accurate results.
Test Reporting
The standard report will list the number of seeds tested per replicate, the average weight of the replicates, and the mg active ingredient/seed or mg ai/g of seed found. Additional values can be calculated automatically with additional information.
